Some attendees seemed surprised a bit by the rebranding and that is likely because of decision to rebrand only was finalized in July of this year. The brand-building for the 2016 show must begin now and that committment to invest in a long-term approach to building a world class, international hospitality show must be kept. Show ownership has taken a great first step..... now, those steps must continue.
With the show investing in their re-brand and each year doing more and more to support the tabletop category, the tabletop category now needs to return the love. No other tradeshow shows more support for the hospitality tabletop category. And, trust us the "bones" of a great show are now in place. A key missing ingredient is more tabletop exhibitors. With many key buyers returning to a fresher, more interesting, and more relevant show... having a broader selection of creative and interesting tabletop companies can only bode well for those exhibiting companies.
So, as more and more people realize that #TabletopMatters .......and, for those creative hospitality tabletop companies looking to stay on top of trends and reach such an important audience......the new HX: The Hotel Experience - Rooms to Restaurants needs to be a strong consideration for 2016 show plans for both attendees and tabletop exhibitors.
To mark its centennial anniversary, the International Hotel, Motel + Restaurant Show® (IHMRS) is unveiling a spectacular new brand and mission to better capture the dynamic innovation of the hospitality industry. HX: The Hotel Experience — Rooms to Restaurants (HX), debuts November 8-10, 2015 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, New York City and represents a bold new strategic direction. This multimillion-dollar investment aimed at revitalizing the largest hospitality trade event in North America, is founded on the belief that true hospitality is anticipating a guest’s needs to create a memorable and unique experience. To achieve that, HX will focus on innovation, inspiration and information. “Making this enormous change at our 100-year juncture is exciting,” said Anthony G. Mangano, President Syramada Hotel Corporation (Syracuse, NY) and Chairman of the Board for HX 2015, “These are not tweaks or modest improvements. HX 2015 is an entirely new show.” The deep dive transformation from IHMRS to HX called on industry experts, research-based data, and prior-year show assessments to identify what the show could and should bring to the industry. Says Mangano, “It all came down to delivering true hospitality, that is, anticipating a guest’s needs before they even know they need it. We all agreed we wanted a show that performed at this level.” HX is now poised to deliver this brand of true hospitality for the hospitality industry, rooms to restaurants. Every component of the hospitality experience for hotels, motels, and restaurants will be represented in five new show divisions: Food & Beverage, Guest Services, Technology, Kitchen Design, and Rooms Division. The HX show floor features engaging new product theaters – HX: ONSTAGE RESTAURANT and HX: ONSTAGE HOTEL. Industry experts appearing live in HX: STUDIO will cover everything from cooking trends and marketing strategies, to social media and handheld devices. Informatively-rich lounge areas provide guest comfort while HX: TECH showcases the hottest products, solutions, and ideas. In the spirit of true hospitality, HX also has a concierge service to put the right exhibitors in touch with the right buyers. “We’ve created more reasons for attendees to be on the show floor longer by reimagining, renovating, and rebranding the entire experience,” says Mangano. So, if you're considering exhibiting at a tradeshow this coming fall, now is the time to be re-doing graphics, updating your pre-show invite list, getting the new collateral materials printed, etc. to make sure that you are communicating the proper message to all who will visit your booth during the show. Too often, our day-to-day business activities make us put off these things until last minute and, inevitably, balls get dropped. So, lay your proper groundwork and make your tradeshow "to-do" list (if you haven’t already) and begin checking things off one by one. Do this ....and you are well on your way to tradeshow success! Good luck!
Today, tabletop in hospitality is whatever you can dream it to be.....
And, yes, we saw some fascinating new tabletop products and, over the next few weeks, we will be bringing these to you in more detail. But, in the meantime, be sure to check out our Instagram feed for some of the cooler things that we found at NRA Show 2015: https://instagram.com/tabletopjournal/
3. Unique Strategic Partnerships
If you are an exhibitor, there can be no better way to showcase how your company might be the perfect partner for another exhibitor. At the just completed IHMRS Show, I know of at least two exhibitors that began discussions with another exhibitor that will likely conclude in new and exciting distribution opportunities with another exhibitor company. In addition, several other exhibiting companies who were sponsoring speaker sessions are now in discussions with those speakers (who they did not know before the show) on how they might work together going forward to each other’s benefit. These opportunities only came about because they attended and exhibited ….and, then, became involved in what was happening at the show. 4. Referrals At the same show, I personally met several industry consulting experts who are responsible for specifying tabletop products within the hospitality industry. Upon learning that they had clients who had needs in certain tabletop categories, I was able to bring them together in a “top to top” situation with exhibitors who could clearly meet those needs. This saved the consultants substantial amounts of time and gave the exhibitors introductions that might have taken years to happen. These types of introduction opportunities can only happen at a trade show. Because they were exhibiting, the supplier companies were able to truly show how their products could be of benefit to the consultants’ client needs. 5. Content Development We know of a number of exhibitors who utilize their exhibiting at trade shows to develop specific brand content. Using both photo and video content, these companies create rich content that will be used on the company website, through their various social media platforms, and through their collateral materials….giving value to exhibiting in that particular trade show that will last long after the show has ended. So…as a former exhibitor to many industry trade shows, I clearly understand that the number of and the quality of leads that get generated is one of the important criteria that we should consider. However, there are also many other benefits – both tangible and intangible - that can be gained by exhibiting and attending trade shows. But, like most things in life, opportunity presents itself most often to those who are looking for it…. .....with their eyes and their minds wide open. It's Saturday and everyone is still setting up at the Javits Center in New York for the 2014 IHMRS Show! Lots of great #tabletop already on display...we're posting great shots on our Instagram site now so check it out. Two "must see" events..... 1) The Beverage Experience sessions.
